December Elections – Position Descriptions

I would like to remind the membership that the December 19 meeting will be a closed meeting as always.  No guests will be allowed.  The annual elections will be held as well as discussion regarding the future of the MECA with recent changes.

The Board is dedicated to continuing this organization but we need the help of our members. There is at least one opening on the board.  All positions are open for nominations.  Recent changes have allowed the opportunity and need for member participation.  Please consider stepping up to fill a position on the board.

The only requirement to be on the board is to be a member in good standing of at least one year.  Again, all positions are open to be voted on.  As a suggestion, the position of Trustee is a good starting position for someone who wants to see what it is all about. Please consider stepping up to fill a position on the board.

President duties:

  1. Preside at all meetings and act as chairman for the organization and carry out such responsibilities as shall be suggested by the Executive Board
  2. Appoint standing committees
  3. Represent this association at neighboring or other functions related to or for the benefit of this Association at the expense of the association.
  4. Be given at his or her discretion the right to invite guests to attend activities or functions of this association. (Fees for the guests to be paid out of the president’s fund.)
  5. Make a temporary appointment to replace any absent or excused officer at the general membership meeting
  6. Be an authorized co-signer on the Michigan Electrical Contractors Association's banking accounts, if so designated by a quorum of the Executive Board.

 

Vice-President duties:

  1. Assist the president and shall perform the executive duties in the absence of the president
  2. Coordinate scheduled programs for the general meetings in initiate complementary correspondence
  3. At all meetings remain by the president and render any assistance deemed necessary
  4. Be an authorized co-signer on the Michigan Electrical Contractors Association's banking accounts, if so designated by a quorum of the Executive Board.

 

Secretary duties:

  1. keep an accurate account of all regular membership meetings and any special meetings that may be deemed necessary by the president or the Executive Board.
  2. Fax email or mail and accounts of the minutes of the past general meeting to the membership each month.
  3. Send a notice of the general meeting to each member and any other correspondence the presidents or the executive board deems necessary to properly transact of his business of the association.
  4. For register the association is a nonprofit organization as required by law every year.
  5. Mail membership acceptance letters in the packets of information to new members.
  6. Give a written account of all board meetings to the entire executive Board
  7. Be responsible for publishing and distribution of the minutes of the general meetings.
  8. Be responsible for these and other duties requested by the Executive board or by the president. These duties will be paid by MECA at a rate of $300 per quarter for the provided services.
  9. Procure office supplies as needed. (Payment for said supplies will be made by the Association.)
  10. Be an authorized co-signer on the Michigan Electrical Contractors Association's banking accounts, if so designated by a quorum of the Executive Board.

Treasurer duties:

Sergeant At Arms duties:

  1. Be responsible for the attendance record of each general meeting
  2. Maintain order at all meetings.
  3. Conduct the raffling of any contributions given the association for that purpose.
  4. Assists the host of the scheduled program.

 

Trustee duties:

  1. Observe that all officers carry out their prescribe duties to the best of their abilities. Should an officer fail in his or her duties be absent without excuse for six meetings per year or commit fraud of the associations funds the trustee may recommend items A or B listed below to the rec board of directors
    1. A. Request voluntary resignation from office with continued membership
    2. B. recommend suspension and termination of membership
  2. Nominate a member to fulfill the removed officers term of office for approval by the general membership.
  3. Assume responsibilities of an officer when said officer is absent with the exception of president.
  4. Assist the organization’s standing committees.
  5. Audit or review the treasurer’s book semiannually May and November and make a report to the membership at the next general meeting.
  6. Attend all Executive Board meetings.
